Quality Supervisor - Defense

LOCATION: Monroe, NC

Position Summary

The Quality Supervisor Defense is a hands-on, working supervisor role that will support the business in the areas of new product development, lean implementation, process capability improvement, daily production support, (including in-process and final inspection, process and product auditing), technical data interpretation/analysis (engineering drawings, specifications, technical publications, purchase orders review, and quality system management.

The supervisor should be knowledgeable of statistical process controls, dimensional inspection metrology, and quality systems.

The supervisor will primarily interface with Customers, Suppliers, Sales/Contracts, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Quality Manager.

Principal Activities
  • Drive manufacturing process capability improvements through use of varying problem solving techniques.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement of product and process quality
  • Provide leadership on problem solving teams to drive root cause analyses and corrective/preventive action plans
  • Validate and respond to corrective and preventive action requests (from both internal and external customers)
  • Provide quality witness on tear down of customer returned material
  • Develop process flow charts/diagrams and process failure mode effects analyses reports
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering team with inspection requirements in part and product manufacturing routes
  • Conduct and participate in quality system, process, and product audits
  • Provide technical leadership to inspection team members
  • Comply with all company policies/procedures
  • Conduct contract review to ensure compliance with military and customer requirements.
  • Perform product and process audits
  • Examination / audit on finished product before customer source inspection/shipment in order to test the conformance to ATP
  • "In-Line" examination / audit of production line confirming adherence to ATP and testing methodology.
  • Review of all documentation/ drawings, ATP sign off sheets, visual conformance, finish etc.
  • First piece inspection of production lot that checks for compliance with engineering drawings
  • Ensures that product identification marking or labeling requirements set out in drawings or associated specifications are properly observed.
  • The ability to perform in-process and final source inspections including First Article inspections
  • The ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings, specifications, geometric dimensioning and tolerances per ANSI/ASME Y 14.5. The ability to perform mechanical measurement for verifying the compliance of complex machined, formed, and assembled components.
  • Compile inspection packages for customer review.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management

Job Requirements

2-year college degree in an applicable field

3+years technical contract review experience in a related industry such as aviation, nuclear or government contracts OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO/QS standards (ISO 9001)
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement control plans and audit plans
  • Working knowledge of inspection metrology
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning
  • Ability to create and/or review failure analysis reports
  • Thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project, and other applicable tools
  • NDT Level II MT, PT, VT certification preferred or willing to obtain
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus
  • Approximately 10% travel possible.
