To assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by producing diagnostic images of various organs and structures of the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves (ultrasound).Ultrasound is an extremely operator dependent imaging modality this position requires and advanced understanding of anatomy an vascular physiology.Minimum: Graduate of an ultrasonography program or completion of an appropriate education pathway. Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences or a relevant health science field. | Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Current BLS Certification. | Minimum Required: Registry eligible new graduate of a sonography or radiology program. Preferred: 1 year clinical experience as a registered sonographerPATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)

The role of the Sonographer is to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by producing diagnostic images of various organs and structures of the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves (ultrasound).Ultrasound is an extremely operator dependent imaging modality this position requires and advanced understanding of anatomy an vascular physiology.

General:

Performs Biopsies and other interventional Ultrasound procedures. Rotates weekends and on call must be able to respond within 45 minutes for call procedures.

Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.

Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.

Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.

Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.

Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.

Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.

Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Clinical:

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with established protocols.

Reviews for appropriateness and completeness, patient histories and requests for services.

Explains procedures to patients.

Selects and operates complex ultrasound equipment. Regulates technical factors on individual patients. Reviews studies for diagnostic acceptability.

Provides routine care to patients in the department. Practices aseptic and sterile technique to prevent the spread of disease. Administers or assists in administering CPR or other emergency procedures as needed.

Maintains appropriate records and supplies.

Instructs students in methods and procedures.

Participates in continuing education activities related to the field of Diagnostic Ultrasound and its subspecialties. Demonstrates and maintains skills in providing care patients of specific age groups, such as geriatric and neonatal, through in-service and continuing education.

Performs evaluative equipment tests; participates in (or is responsible for) quality control program.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)
