Job Description:

Clinical Lab Assistant I, Slide Room (Part time)




Schedule: Part time, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm




Position Overview: Join our team at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) as a Clinical Lab Assistant Level 1 in the Histopathology department. We're seeking dedicated individuals who are passionate about patient care, asset management, and research support. As a Clinical Lab Assistant Level 1, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pathology assets and supporting patient care and research initiatives.



Responsibilities:




Filing and Support



  • Receive, track, file, document, and distribute anatomical pathology slides and blocks.

  • Transport assets between facilities and offsite locations.

  • Order specimens and archival assets, maintain supply inventory, and ensure organization of assets.

  • Utilize computer skills for digital imaging and scanning tasks.


Patient Care and Research



  • Manage requests for pathology material from clinicians and patients.

  • Retrieve completed requests, send out assets using courier services, and maintain documentation.

  • Process research requests, cancer protocol requests, and pathology assets for molecular testing.

  • Collect and document quality assurance data and enroll in research training programs.






Qualifications

Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous experience in science, healthcare, or customer service preferred.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Windows software.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail, flexibility, and a customer/patient-focused mindset.


Additional Requirements:



  • Neat and orderly work habits.

  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.

  • Manual dexterity and visual accuracy.

  • Fluency in English for effective communication.

  • Basic knowledge of LIS and ability to troubleshoot and follow procedures.

  • Sensitivity to handling confidential patient information.
