Department Information



The Office of Housing and Residence Life, within the Division of Student Affairs, provides housing for 2,400 residents offering students an on-campus urban living experience. We create living environments designed to foster educational success and personal growth through social and academic programs, events, and numerous leadership opportunities. On-campus housing communities create a sense of belonging and fellowship that comes with living on-campus among a community of peers. Housing and Residence Life also serves a wide range of campus and community partners through summer conferences and guest housing that directly impact employer recruitment efforts across the city and support engagement and college prep efforts to support student success and recruitment.

Job Summary





  • Schedules, assigns, and monitors work of custodial workers and/or moving and setup workers.

  • Takes inventory of supplies and places orders as necessary to maintain stock levels.

  • Serves as on-site trainer to explain work procedures and to demonstrate use and care of cleaning equipment.

  • Acts as project leader for routine and non-routine work. Reviews and executes work orders. Guides the work of moving and setup workers in preparation for conferences, meetings, and events. Arranges tables, chairs, and furniture. Sets up public address systems and related equipment.

  • Acts in relief of custodial workers, group leaders, and supervisors, performing custodial duties as needed.

  • Operates van/passenger vehicle to transport mobile crews to various building sites. May operate box truck, packer truck, or forklift.




Qualifications



Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.


EDUCATION



Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 1 year of custodial/moving and set-ups experience and demonstrated leadership skills.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Required



  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

  • Maintain valid safety certifications (First Aid, CPR, BBP, AED, etc).

  • Valid CDL upon date of hire.

SKILLS



Required



  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures for all equipment, materials, cleaning methods, and care and maintenance of such equipment.

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the moving of very large and heavy items.

  • Ability to operate all manual and power cleaning equipment and snow removal equipment.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in written format with custodial personnel and other staff.

  • Ability to effectively lead, direct, instruct, and interact with custodial personnel.

  • Ability to maintain safety certifications and pass required safety training.

  • Ability to use a computer.




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
