Job Summary



The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant who provides primary health care to patients of the IU Student Health Center according to state license, state practice acts, and national certification. State law specifies the autonomy, collaboration, or supervision required to diagnose and manage a patient's healthcare. The APP performs the duties and responsibilities of the respective IU Student Health Center departmental positions.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Participates in psychosocial management of patients.

  • Selects and orders appropriate tests and procedures necessary to augment physical findings and distinguish between normal and abnormal findings.

  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient.

General Responsibilities


  • Elicits, records, and interprets a complete health history.

  • Performs, records, and interprets a complete physical examination.

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates care which may include diagnostic testing, prescribing or obtaining a prescription for pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, patient education and appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies.

  • Identifies health risks and needs based on normal and abnormal findings obtained from history, examination and/or diagnostic tests.

  • Participates in periodic and/or joint evaluations of care provided which may include chart review or patient evaluation.

  • Supports quality of patient care records by accurate documentation on all patients seen and confidentiality in all matters.

  • Works cooperatively with and consults with other staff when appropriate and when required by state license.

  • Maintains current knowledge and skills by attending educational programs.

  • Participates in individual and departmental quality improvement, educational, and risk management activities as needed.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Master's degree from an accredited program as a Physician Assistant

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years of experience in outpatient care

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Required



  • Physician Assistant License without restriction upon date of hire

  • National Certification by the appropriate certification program without restriction upon date of hire

  • Board certification upon date of hire

  • Prescriptive authority within 90 days from date of hire

  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License within 90 days from date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
