Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.



Job Summary

The Research Assistant will assist with performing cell culture, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, histological studies, gene silencing and overexpression in the laboratory. Assist with maintenance of mouse colonies and genotyping assays to distinguish each of the mouse lines. Aassist with breeding to maintain lines or generate unique combinations of lines for experiments. The Research Assistant will assist with tracking and maintaining lab supplies, purchases, and related records.



Responsibilities

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:Mouse colony maintenance and generating mice. Experiments to include Real-time PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, and other molecular biology studies. Assist with and serve as back up for ordering/tracking lab supplies. Perform other related duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science, or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research. OR Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care or materials science and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting.



Preferred Qualifications

Mouse handling and basic Molecular Biology techniques.



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn. Ability to complete work, meet deadlines, and work independently with only general supervision. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem solving, and prioritization skills.



Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).


Pay Grade: R9


Salary Minimum: $15.00-$17.42 hourly.


Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
