The office of Finance oversees Augusta University financial operations to advance the university's education, service and research missions. The divisions which report to the office of Finance are: Budget Services, Financial Operations, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Supply Management, Public Safety.
Job Summary
Help prepare, maintain and monitor budgets for University departments. Work with personnel at all levels to resolve budget issues. Prepare and analyze reports. Provide training to departments including ongoing guidance and assistance.
Responsibilities
Budget Analysts, working under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Budget Operations, are responsible for providing data analysis for budgetary and financial matters in a dynamic environment. The duties include, but are not limited to:
Help prepare, maintain, and monitor budgets for University departments to include working with personnel at all levels to resolve budget issues
Develop budget/financial recommendations by monitoring, analyzing and interpreting data; analyzing departmental operations; and reviewing and analyzing policies and procedures
Review, approve, and process budget amendment requests
Support position management by analyzing requests for positions, ad hoc salary changes, and distribution changes which includes collaboration to ensure budgets justify budget approval
Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports including analysis of budget vs. actual data and using trend analysis to make projections
Assist in preparation of the University's original budget, including final BOR submission
Participate in training of departmental personnel and provide ongoing guidance and assistance
Participate in testing for budget-related processes and systems
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration or related field of study
Experience Requirements
Two years of budget, finance, or accounting experience
PeopleSoft Financials and/or HCM experience
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (such as pivot tables, charts/graphs)
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and/or PeopleSoft HCM including development of queries OR experience with Workday
Experience in developing and maintaining Tableau databases
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Understanding of budget, financial, and/or cost accounting concepts
Knowledge of business and financial management practices
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other computer software/databases
Effective verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills to include time management and multitasking
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
Ability to convert financial detail into written narrative explaining how budget plans support the university's strategic mission for use by internal external constituents
Requires in-depth analytical and problem-solving skills
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
