Job Description:

Position: Professional Specialist (Internal Applicants Only)

Company: Princeton University

Description: CITP is the cross-disciplinary initiative at Princeton where researchers and educators work to improve the relationship between technology and society. CITP aims to harness Princeton's unique strengths in computer science and engineering, policy, the social sciences, and humanities to help governments, institutions, and individuals leverage the benefits of technology while mitigating its potential to do harm. By tightly integrating basic research, applied research, and societal engagement, we enable distinctive impact-both academic and societal. Since the Center is embedded in a world-renowned university, we are in a distinctive position to train future leaders at the intersection of technology and society. This position is part of a pilot program at CITP where we will work on embedding ethics in engineering courses like computer science. The role involves spearheading the development and design of a curriculum aimed at integrating ethics into COS courses. Collaborating closely with CITP researchers and faculty within the computer science department, the position will devise a comprehensive strategy to infuse ethics across a wide array of courses. Initially, the focus will be on piloting ethics integration within introductory courses, with a view to expanding this initiative to encompass a broader spectrum of COS offerings. This endeavor may manifest through various means, such as incorporating ethics into course precepts or weaving it into assignments throughout the curriculum. Utilizing integrated and agile instructional techniques, the position will adeptly introduce ethical considerations into these courses, fostering a holistic approach to computer science education. The position will make themselves available to guest lecture on ethics content at the request of the instructor of record. In addition to curriculum development, the role will actively engage in the intellectual vibrancy of the center. This involves attending both public and private CITP events, as well as contributing to the organization of workshops and conferences where there is thematic overlap. Furthermore, the position will be dedicated to disseminating insights gained from the pilot curriculum development plan through publications. Attending relevant conferences and workshops will also be a key aspect of the role, with the intention of bringing back valuable knowledge to enrich the CITP community. Applicants should have a Ph.D. and experience working in tech and ethics. This appointment is part-time for one year at the rank of Professional Specialist, and the position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Applicants must apply online at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/34622 and include a current CV and contact information for at least one reference.
