HOW YOU WILL SOAR:

The Sr. Director, Software Engineering is responsible for leading technical strategy and engineering delivery for our technology modernization initiative in the Health & Benefits industry. Key platforms will be rebuilt, cloud native, enabling business growth and step-change technical capabilities. This position reports to the CTO and will oversee key functions including solution architecture, data architecture, integration architecture, DevOps, platform development, software engineering, and quality for a greenfield platform. We are looking for a seasoned technology leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong critical thinking, and a solid background in cloud native systems development.


  • Technical design, development, and delivery of the cloud native platform, taking advantage of all relevant, modern technical capabilities

  • Proven track record of successfully leading software development teams and delivering complex projects, particularly in Cloud (Azure / AWS) environments

  • In-depth understanding of software development methodologies, tools, and best practices, with specific expertise in cloud native platforms in a regulated environment

  • Leadership of a team of architects and engineers tasked with delivery of a modern platform meeting business needs

  • Detailed management of all facets of a delivery team, including technical staff, third party vendors, budgeting and forecasting

  • Collaboration with business stakeholders, product managers, architects, and technology engineers to understand requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions

  • Architecture and technical decision making, in collaboration with our established architecture and engineering teams

  • Technical strategy of the platform to meet both immediate and long-term business needs

  • Ensuring high-quality code, automated testing and security best practices in the platform

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the team

  • Evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews. Identify areas for development and create plans to enhance team members' skills

  • Uniformly identify high performers who consistently produce quality work

  • Remove barriers for the team, ensuring team members have all the tools, resources, and context to execute

  • Has a good understanding of their teams strengths and opportunities, capitalizing on their strengths and coaching opportunities

  • Address challenges and conflicts that arise within the team or projects. Make decisions that balance various factors and contribute to the overall success of the organization

  • Cultivate relationships with clients, partners, and other departments to facilitate collaboration and achieve common goals

  • Provide direction, guidance, and support to a team of employees. Set clear expectations, delegate tasks, and ensure effective communication within the team


IF YOU HAVE SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING, APPLY:

  • 15+ years of experience in technology delivery

  • 5+ years of experience in Azure cloud-native technology development and delivery

  • Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Proven experience leading technical resources, with a focus on people development

  • Excellent track record of success in leading major engineering efforts leveraging cloud native capabilities.

  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive consensus on technical solutions.

  • Experience with CI/CD automated pipeline delivery models.

  • Proven experience in agile, managing delivery and teams.

  • Proven track record of successful leadership in ensuring buy-in at all levels including developers, architects, peers, middle and senior management

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design scalable and robust data solutions to meet business needs.
