Job Description:

The Lab Pack Chemist at Clean Earth is responsible for managing hazardous waste materials, ensuring their proper treatment and disposal according to environmental regulations and company policies. This role involves inventorying, identifying, segregating, packaging, and preparing shipments of hazardous materials. The Lab Pack Chemist may also perform onsite services, maintain documentation, and oversee small projects with supervision.


Responsibilities:


  • Handle hazardous materials, including inventorying, identifying, segregating, and packaging waste material in accordance with Lab Pack policies and regulations.
  • Occasionally perform onsite services such as waste collection, consolidation, sampling, and safety inspections as required by customers.
  • Assist other business groups internally and onsite as needed.
  • Prepare shipments of packaged waste by inspecting, labeling, marking, and loading into transport vehicles.
  • Complete documentation including shipping papers, evaluations, and certifications in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement if required.
  • Follow Health & Safety procedures and promote safety by example, including developing on-site Health & Safety plans.
  • Submit Lab Packs for approval to third-party outlets.
  • Perform unknown field testing for classification and packaging for transportation and disposal.
  • Mentor and assist new employees in lab pack work duties.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

Basic Required Qualifications:


  • Associate College degree in General Science or equivalent experience.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to occasionally travel.
  • Physical ability to lift and move material exceeding 55 lbs.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry through general chemistry or biology.
  • Advanced knowledge of EPA and DOT regulations.
  • Minimum one (1) year lab pack experience.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER (29 CFR 1910.120) certification.
  • 40 hours Depack Experience.
  • 8 hours DOT Training.
  • PPE Training including Respirators.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • BS/BA in a science-related field.
