Position Summary:

Provides technical expertise in the programming, set-up, operations, take-down, and coordination of simulation-based training programs. Responsible for developing curriculum, agendas, learning aids, and course documents, with the ability to follow medical aspects of training scenarios.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Operates simulator equipment and follows medical aspects of training scenarios; makes appropriate adjustments based on participant actions.
  • Develops curriculum, agendas, learning aids and course documents.
  • Utilizes soft skills to work with vendors to obtain valuable information and documents that will assist with simulator technical operations.
  • Operates and maintains the following: mannequin-based simulators, virtual reality procedural trainers, associated supplies and equipment, surgical simulators, computerized simulators.
  • Operates and provides technical assistance with simulation and medical related audio-video systems.
  • Provides technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors and staff in the use of simulation and medical equipment, as necessary.
  • Conducts ongoing maintenance of all medical and simulation equipment, including cleaning, repairing, assuring that all equipment is maintained in good working order at all times.
  • Sets-up and takes-down simulators, medical equipment, and supplies for all sessions. May participate in teaching-related activities.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and conducts routine inventory updates.
  • May obtain cadavers from the UT Human Structure facility, maintains records and transports to and from the laboratory and assists in preparing them. Maintains the cleanliness of the facility and equipment and assists users of the facility during training sessions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation and medical equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
  • Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Certification/Skills:

    • CHSE - Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator or CHSE-A or CHSOS required.
      Medical license and/or certification within the specialty area preferred.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Ability to present content and information to a group to achieve learning or a goal.

    • Ability to provide structure to the meeting or training.

    • Ability to make people feel comfortable and encourage participation from everyone.

    • Demonstrated ability to create program content to achieve desired learning at the departmental or business unit level.

    • Ability to use multiple facilitation techniques to achieve learning such as group activities, individual activities, and role plays.

    • Skilled at asking questions to guide a group of individuals through a process.

    • Capable of handling objections or pushback from the group without getting defensive.


    Minimum Education:

    Bachelor's Degree in related field required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

    Minimum Experience:

    Two (2) years of simulation experience required.

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

    Residency Requirement:

    Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
