Job Description Summary

The Pediatric Inpatient Clinical Liaison is responsible for developing, leading, executing, implementing, analyzing, reporting, and evaluating pediatric patient and family experience improvement initiatives. The Pediatric Inpatient Clinical liaison proactively identifies the needs of patients and families while serving as a point of contact for resolution. The Pediatric Inpatient Liaison will collaborate with the innovation center staff to evaluate the patient's medical or physical condition and to assess client needs at admission and as needed. Meets regularly with patients and families to support them throughout the inpatient stay. The Pediatric Inpatient Liaison will act as a liaison with families prior to admission to ensure a smooth transition to acute rehabilitation and what to expect in the next level of care. Will collaborate with Admission Liaisons as needed. The Pediatric Clinical Liaison will be well-versed in Press Ganey and the patient satisfaction process.

Job Description


The Pediatric Inpatient Clinical Liaison:


  • Serves as a liaison between the organization and patients and their families to ensure a positive experience.

  • Consult with pediatric innovation staff and support clinicians to better serve our patients.

  • Promotes therapeutic environment to innovation center staff with patients, families, and other caregivers.

  • Assists in helping the clinical team build trust with patients and families. Provide outreach to patients and families before they arrive to better prepare them for the transition of care.

  • Documents as appropriate and as needed in medical record. Assesses for and supports any special needs related to the culture of the patient/family/caregivers.

  • Serve as a key resource to management, staff, and providers to improve patient satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and mitigate barriers as identified through patient complaints.

  • Analyze customer satisfaction metrics and other performance analytics to influence accountability.

  • Communicates patient findings to physicians, nurses, allied health and extended interdisciplinary team.

  • Serves on various ad hoc and standing committees as requested. Gather pre-admission clinical and social information as needed through collaborative relationship with Admission Liaisons.

  • Disseminates pertinent family dynamics to the team.

  • Contribute to discharge planning as needed and assist with transition of care. May at times visit patients in outpatient and Day Rehab after discharge to ensure needs are being met.

  • Perform discharge call backs.

  • Be a point of contact for Get Well Network.

  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.


Reporting Relationships



Reports directly to the Pediatric Innovation Center Nurse Manager.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required



Current Illinois license to practice as a Registered Nurse. Current CPR certification. Minimum 1 year of experience as a staff nurse. Professional certification preferred. Pediatric experience preferred. Knowledge of community resources, health care system and interdisciplinary functioning. Able to apply company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues. Able to receive and follow instruction, guidance, and direction from others. Able to follow practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data. Interpersonal communication, advocacy and analytic skills required to work with patients and families, and various medical professionals within and outside of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management within SRAlab.



Working Conditions



Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
