About the Department



Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology provides care for patients and families with acute and chronic medical conditions, or other hematologic diseases, requiring specialized knowledge and skills in Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation.



Job Summary



Under the direction of the principal investigator, the candidate will perform moderately complex lab and research-related duties and tasks. Provide technical and administrative support in an exciting research program designed to understand the fundamental mechanisms of cell death in cancerous cells and activated lymphocytes and to develop new therapeutic strategies to combat therapeutic resistance.


Responsible for all aspects of research projects and research facilities. Plans and conducts clinical and non-clinical research; facilitates and monitors daily activities of research projects. Directs engineering and technical support activities to develop and maintain tools and computational methods needed to gather and analyze data.


Research in the LaBelle lab focuses on drugging the BCL-2 family of apoptotic proteins for immune modulation and cancer cell killing. Methods in the lab include functional genomics (such as sc-RNA-seq, RNA-seq, etc.), cellular immunology, in vivo mouse models, and work with primary patient samples. These studies are being performed within the rich scientific environment at The University of Chicago. The lab has expertise in cancer immunology, chemical biology, and drug delivery to carry out our scientific vision of drugging cancer cells and modulating the immune system for therapeutic benefit.



Responsibilities



  • Provides expertise to identify protocol problems, inform investigators of problems, or assist in problem resolution efforts, such as protocol revisions. Provides expertise to evaluate factors such as sample collection processes, data management plans, or potential subject risks.


  • Mentor for junior members of the lab including postdocs, graduate students, technicians, and undergraduate students.


  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.


  • Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage complex data sets for research.


  • Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.


  • Trains new laboratory personnel.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

  • PhD in relevant fields, including, molecular biology, cellular immunology, human genetics, or related disciplines.





Experience:



  • Experience in immunology, cancer biology, computation biology, grant writing, or mouse model experimentation.
