Job Description:

The Senior eMobility Engineer will be responsible for organizing several projects to demonstrate the potential of BMW developing consumer products related to the energy storage or "EV Ecosystem". The position will be primarily focused on identifying relevant technologies in the fields of stationary battery storage, energy markets, vehicle-to-grid use cases, and working within the BMW local and international teams to build hardware and software prototypes for testing these new technologies.
The position entails visualization and realization of applications, gaining support for the latter within BMW, working closely with US high-tech companies / universities / national laboratories to screen technologies, develop prototypes, manage projects and transfer results to BMW's product development divisions. Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment is required, as well as wide engineering technical skills and overview.
The employee will work with internal and external partners to screen and evaluate battery storage, charging, and software prototypes to demonstrate the potential benefits of EV energy storage use cases for BMW customers.

Projects (Assigned or Independently Developed)

• Research and make recommendations to increase BMW Group's competence and secure BMW access to new technologies and the best available vehicle integration, storage, charging, and energy products

• Collaborate within project teams comprised of internal BMW associates, contractors and external partners, incl. responsible handling of all necessary administrative topics (like NDA's, budget planning and controlling, joint development contracts, etc

• Create project plans and development timelines.

• Monitor, evaluate and report achievements and milestones in research projects.

• Prepare and present project status reports to BMW project partners and management when requested.

• Prepare and present project status reports on the sustainability demo project and EV Ecosystem business case analysis during high level management visits as well as to senior BMW Group executives when requested.

Technology Scouting

• Screen and evaluate power electronic components, battery container options, and electric vehicle charging station technologies having various ranges of technology readiness levels with a focus on enabling an EV customer ecosystem.

• Evaluation of power electronic component manufacturers and electric vehicle charging station manufacturers regarding their research and development capabilities and production competence.

Office & Project Administration

• Define detailed work programs, time schedules, milestones and budget plans for own research projects.

• Organization of all documentation related to research projects (communication, documentation, research papers, presentations, etc.)

• Monitor and evaluate milestones, escalate when necessary.

The pay range for this role is $174,760- $242,608.

• Master's degree required in the area of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or similarly related field.

• Minimum 5 years of recent experience (Academy, National Laboratories or Industry) in research and/or development of electrical powertrain and knowledge of HVS concepts and charging systems.

• Prior work experience with multi-partner projects in the field of sustainability and/or automotive EV engineering.

• In depth knowledge of powertrain technologies.

Preferences:

• MA/MS degree.

• German language skills are a plus.
