Research Specialist BWH Neurology at Brigham & Women's Hospital(BWH) in Boston, Massachusetts

Posted in Other 12 days ago.

Job Description:

1. Neuronal circuit analysis. Our laboratory uses 2-photon imaging, fMRI and classical electrophysiology methods to record from multiple neurons and/or brain areas. Similar type of analysis is needed for several projects in the laboratory, ranging from mouse models of epilepsy, alzheimer's disease and autism to human subjects with stroke of the visual pathways, to mouse models of cortical circuit changes that occur in the normal brain during learning. The research specialist will be expected to develop sophisticated computational models of analysis that will be applicable to these areas of research and will be brought to the point that they can be used by other members of the laboratory. George's unique background in physics, electrophysiology and optical imaging methods make him uniquely qualified to serve in this role, as my laboratory uses similar methods, with which he is already intimately familiar.

2. As part of his job, George would be expected to work with and co-supervise with myself 1 postdoctoral fellow and one graduate student, Andriani Rina, helping to guide them through the appropriate formulation of the circuit analysis that their projects require. He will also be expected to provide help with the hardware design of our electrophysiology setup, which the postdoctoral fellow uses.

3. Finally, George will be expected to help me with the formulation and writing of funding proposals in the area of circuit analysis, in which he will participate, though not as PI, and which, if successful, will provide additional funding to cover his salary beyond one year.
