Job Description
The corporate insurance analyst develops and manages programs and creates and provides information for use in decision making related to Berkshire Hathaway Energys insurance functions and provides initial/first level contact and issue resolution for most internal company and external insurance, claims and risk management constituencies. Involved in the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance, communication and reporting of activities of Berkshire Hathaway Energys corporate insurance. The insurance analyst is the central point of responsibility in the annual budget process and helps to compile and review insurance-related data used to identify industry trends, reconcile variances and communicate potential impacts on Berkshire Hathaway Energy operations.
Responsibilities
Receive policy renewal reports from insurance vendors and analyze and prepare renewal recommendations and present for approval to manager, corporate insurance and senior management team. Assemble and organize underwriting data requests, complete insurance applications and create underwriter submissions for insurance renewals. Ensure approved coverages are placed. (25%) Serve as project lead on major insurance projects and initiatives; manage project plans and timelines and oversee external consultants on production, productivity and process improvement implementations. Develop, prepare and analyze insurance and risk data and financial reports for senior management, department managers, brokers and state agencies; process premium invoices and ensure accurate data is provided for tax purposes. (20%) Develop, analyze, maintain, track and report information using MS Office products. Compile, summarize and trend data from internal and external resources and draw conclusions from analyses for insurance purposes and in response to internal or external data requests. Conduct ad-hoc studies and quantitative analyses as required. (15%) Participate in setting annual budgets for Berkshire Hathaway Energy insurance premiums and MidAmerican Energy responsibility centers and monitors budget variances throughout the year. (15%) Reviews contracts and evidence of insurance from third-parties and determines compliance with company standards and contractual requirements. (10%) Responsible for project management of document creation and updating for projects and regulatory filings as assigned. (5%) Recommend solutions to management and influence decisions. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) A minimum of three years insurance related experience, for analyst level. A minimum of five years insurance related experience, for sr. analyst level. In-depth knowledge of property and liability insurance concepts and processes, preferred. Analysis, assessment and investigation skills to determine recommendations or plans of action. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal or external customer issues which may be sensitive in nature. Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation applications. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and practices; applicable federal, state, and local governmental laws and regulations, preferred.
