This position is responsible for supporting the Federal Reserve System’s Research and Development around the future of money and payments.

What we do:

Given the role of the US dollar and payment systems, the Federal Reserve System seeks to further understand the implications, costs, and benefits of the use of different technologies for the future of money and payments. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a world-class team working on cutting edge technologies related to digital money and payments including tokenization, application of smart contracts, central bank digital currency (CBDC), and advanced cryptography. You will participate in a dynamic work environment that has the feel of a startup while also maintaining the benefits of a larger organization.

How you’ll succeed:


  • Collaborating as part of an agile squad with Engineering and Product teams to develop proofs of concept and prototypes for new areas of research and development.


  • Architecting and implementing front-end, mid-tier integration and backend functionality (full-stack).


  • Writing clean, readable, and highly maintainable code in Python, Go and JavaScript/TypeScript including documentation, peer code reviews, unit, integration and system tests.


  • Present findings, challenges, and solutions to technical and non-technical teams.


About you:


  • Proven experience contributing across multiple development stacks, areas and technologies.


  • Outstanding ability to translate non-technical product requirements into technical designs, specifications, interfaces and implementations.


  • Highly capable at operating within ambiguity and abstract concepts.


  • Significant experience with common Continuous Integration and Deployment tools, Docker, React, RESTful API design (FastAPI) and Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) tools


  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and transfer knowledge to other team members.


Base Salary Range: Min: $138,900 - Mid: $180,400 - Max: $221,900 (Location: San Francisco)
Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
