The Payroll team in our National Support Center (NSC) is looking for a Payroll Specialist at their Baton Rouge, LA office.

Pay for this position is between $55,000 and $58,000 per year at this location.

Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist - Processing is responsible for payroll processing and handles all duties necessary to produce paychecks/direct deposits for employees of Hajoca Corporation in a timely fashion and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. The Payroll Specialist is also responsible for other aspects of payroll.

Job Duties




  • Process payrolls in accordance with company policies and procedures including but not limited to edit review, system processing and performing any other duties related to payroll processing.



  • Issue manual checks on an as needed basis as approved by the Payroll Manager including final paychecks for terminations.



  • Process incoming garnishments, liens and support orders and communicate with garnishing agency and employees as well as reconcile garnishment withholdings to payroll records.



  • Investigate, resolve and respond to inquiries from the field in a timely manner for all questions related to the area of expertise.



  • Perform quarterly and annual internal compliance reviews as required.



  • Maintain process documents related to responsible activities.



  • Maintain a working knowledge of the duties performed by the other payroll processors to provide support in their absence.



  • Perform duties as required for payroll related projects assigned by the Payroll Manager.



  • Responsible for management of Hajoca garnishment administration, including but not limited to reviewing garnishments for payroll requirements and ensuring that appropriate changes are made when needed.



  • Manage/support internal and external audit requests, subpoenas, etc. pertaining to payroll.



  • Researching State compliance processes for deceased employees and final check requests

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Intermediate user of MS Office. Technical/enterprise application experience required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to convey answers, issues, and status changes in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the business.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and assume responsibility for decisions which have impact on people and quality of service.
  • Deals with interpersonal conflict and set-back in a mature, problem-solving, solutions-oriented manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of common payroll, benefits, and/or recruiting practices.

Education, Training, Experience


  • High school diploma required
  • College degree - or - 3 or more years of direct payroll experience preferred
  • 2 or more years of multi-state payroll processing experience required
  • Payroll certification a plus

Physical Demands

This position is predominantly sedentary office work, which involves sitting, typing, filing, and conversing on the phone. Occasional lifting and carrying of boxes up to 20lbs. is required. Walking, stooping, reaching, talking, hearing, near and color vision are required for this position.

FLSA Status

Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
