The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a professional nurse who has acquired specialized knowledge and skills through completion of a graduate program of study. The PNP has the credentials to function in an expanded nursing role and is responsible for the daily management of selected patients. The PNP has the responsibility for assessment and management of patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. The PNP works with their collaborating physician in accordance with mutually developed practice guidelines.
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing.
Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse in the Advanced Practice role in Psychiatric Nursing. DEA and DPH licensure for prescriptive practice.
ANCC certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Certification as either a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing or as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
EXPERIENCE:
Professional and clinical experience working in psychiatric care, emergency department crisis intervention, and family practice medicine.
Demonstrated skills in psychotherapy interventions which include all generally accepted and evidence based methods of brief or long-term therapy. These interventions use a range of therapy models including, but not limited to, psychodynamic, CBT, DBT and supportive interpersonal therapies to promote insight, produce behavioral change, maintain function and promote recovery.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
