The Department of Medicine- Pulmonary Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Scholar. The Post Doctoral Scholar takes initiative and works independently in developing new research ideas and troubleshooting new assays. Further, the incumbent facilitates the training of students, residents, fellows, and other trainees.
The research fellow is expected to work under the mentorship of University of Miami faculty to plan and conduct experimental protocols, analyze, and interpret research data, continuously devise new approaches to problems as well as plan, conduct, and coordinate all phases of the work. The individual in this position will receive general supervision and technical guidance through this process. As part of the position, trained fellows will attend regular meetings with mentors to review progress and outline research output. In addition, fellows will be required to provide quarterly updates to the T32 leadership committee to ensure adequate progress in the fellowship.
Department duties and responsibilities:
Contribute significantly to study design, execution, and interpretation.
Present at research in progress conferences and relevant pulmonary or sleep national and international conferences.
Prepare and submit manuscripts.
Maintain appropriate ethics training.
Generate progress reports for annual reporting requirements.

Fellowship Features:
Research with an experienced faculty mentor and team of advisors
$4,500 annually for conference travel, coursework, or other research expenses
Ability to apply for an annual $10,000 department research grant
Training activities include grant writing, human subject research and, research presentations, career development
Minimum Requirements:
MD or Ph.D. in relevant field or equivalent area
Basic or clinical research experience in the field of pulmonary or sleep medicine
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Strong work habits and ability to work independently as well as with a team.
