The Ecological Modeling and Integration lab is seeking applicants for two high-school students to work on a data collection and analysis project in Summer 2024. Projects may include analyzing and visualizing ecological and environmental data for biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nutrient and climate change impacts on terrestrial ecosystems (students learn to develop statistical analysis skills and machine learning approaches; R is preferred). The student participants might earn a co-authorship on a scientific publication, depending on the quality of the work. The expectation is a dedication of 4 hours per day for eight weeks. Responsibilities
The applicant will have the opportunity to learn the cutting-edge microbial-explicitly ecosystem model - CLM-Microbe, and work in a highly interdisciplinary team.
The successful applicant will work on data compilation from published literature and assist with setting up the model simulation and analyzing the model output with computer language (mainly R) and statistical approaches.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience
Currently enrolled in high school.
Interested in ecology and applied modeling and statistic approaches.
Demonstrates responsibility and accountability.
Preferred Experience
Specialized knowledge about ecology is desirable.
