Beacon Hill Life Sciences is actively recruiting for Direct Hire opportunity for an Automation Engineer (Level II) to be part of Chemistry Manufacturing Operations in Madison, Wisconsin.

Position is perm, must work on-site.

Salary is based on experience with range of $100K - $140K

JOB OBJECTIVE: Identifies and executes projects related to the process control system for Chemistry Manufacturing equipment and utility systems. Supports ongoing manufacturing through maintaining automation systems and troubleshooting as needed.

As part of the Chemistry Operations team, you will lead process control system projects and support ongoing operations for manufacturing equipment and utility systems. You will work both independently and in cross?functional teams on design and execution of projects, utilizing a strong understanding of PLC and HMI integration, process instrumentation, industrial networking, and electrical and control systems to ensure the reliable design and operation of new and existing manufacturing equipment and utility systems.

CORE DUTIES:
  • Works independently and in cross-functional teams on design and execution of projects. Develops the project approach, options analysis, execution plan, and engineering documents. Assumes system ownership through the project delivery life cycle of planning, design, implementation, commissioning, and qualification. Tracks project deliverables and provides project status updates to company personnel and leadership. Exercises good judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Utilizes a strong understanding of PLC and HMI integration, process instrumentation, industrial networking, and electrical and control systems to ensure the reliable design and operation of new and existing manufacturing equipment and utility systems.
  • Provides guidance and support for installation and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Supports contractors during project implementation and supports commissioning and qualification.
  • Leads technical root cause analysis and troubleshooting on process control issues related to electrical, instrumentation, and process control systems.
  • Provides automation subject matter expertise during the assessment and execution of changes to the manufacturing process control system.
  • Provides after hours on-call support rotation for the process control system.

Key Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate includes:
  • B.S. in Electrical or Chemical Engineering (or related field) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a regulated industry and familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or cGMPs.
  • Working knowledge and experience with process control systems for small molecule organic chemistry manufacturing equipment and utility systems, such as batch chemical reactors, filters, dryers, vacuum pumps, scrubbers, purified water, compressed gases, and engineered heat transfer fluid systems.
  • Applied knowledge of Rockwell PlantPAx DCS and FactoryTalk Suite (Historian SE, Batch, Assetcentre).
  • Strong understanding of electrical design and installation requirements for hazardous area classifications. Experience designing and reviewing process instrumentation, P&IDs, and electrical wiring diagrams/schematics.
  • Understanding of Process Hazard Analysis methodologies.
  • Experience with industrial network infrastructure (servers, switches/routers, Ethernet/IP, Devicenet, HART).
  • Applied knowledge of the following codes and standards: ISA, NFPA, IEC, UL, and NEC.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects with little daily instruction and receiving only general guidance on new projects and assignments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (oral, written, formal and informal) and a demonstrated ability and desire to share experience and knowledge with team members. Ability to work well with others in a team?based, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to handle both multiple and changing priorities with assigned timelines, budgets, and resources. Must be a self-starter who can independently drive projects and day-to-day work tasks to completion according to a defined budget and schedule.
  • Strong safety mindset. Outstanding critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and interact with a large group of people with diverse needs and goals. Successful in implementing ideas and influencing people in a team environment.
