Senior Power Electronics Engineer

A global leader in Energy Storage Systems are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join their growing team in Atalnta, GA.

Senior Power Electronics Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Design single-phase and three-phase bidirectional inverters with the objective of achieving maximum efficiency and cost competitiveness.
  • Analyze marketing specifications and select appropriate topologies to meet cost, efficiency, and performance targets.
  • Conduct high voltage power semiconductor selection, assess switching behavior, calculate losses in converter/inverter systems, and perform reliability and cost analysis using Si/SiC/GaN MOSFETs and diodes.
  • Develop individual converter specifications based on master specifications and estimate power budgets for each converter.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in standards such as UL1741, IEC62019, and IEC 60730 and apply them in design.
  • Understand the product certification process and incorporate design elements to facilitate compliance testing (UL, CSA, FCC, etc.).
  • Focus on designing non-isolated topologies and utilize both active and passive cooling systems.
  • Take ownership of power layout, implement techniques for noise reduction, EMI/EMC mitigation, and manage product testing at EMI/EMC laboratories and in-house pre-compliance testing.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of magnetics and the ability to design and build magnetics for prototype evaluation.
  • Conduct testing and troubleshooting to address complex issues under pressure and provide viable short and long-term solutions.

Senior Power Electronics Engineer Requirements:
  • Thorough understanding of power electronics systems, including inverters, converters, AC systems, phase configurations, grounding schemes, and safety procedures when working with hazardous current and voltage levels.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex schematics and board layouts using Altium.
  • Strong grasp of signal integrity, noise issues, and signal processing in power electronics environments.
  • Direct experience with IGBT/MOSFET/GAN or similar switching devices, as well as gate driver design, selection, and characterization.
  • Collaboration with contract manufacturers for final production support.
  • Familiarity with digital control for power electronics, DSP, and microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge of PV systems, energy storage, DC fast charging equipment, generators, and grid simulators operation.
  • Innovative mindset, willing to explore new power conversion technologies and devise creative testing solutions for advanced power electronics.
