Job Description:

The Energy Efficiency engineer identifies and recommends energy savings strategies to achieve more energy-efficient operations. Monitor and analyze energy consumption. Perform energy audits, modeling, measurement, verification, commissioning, or retro-commissioning. Prepare energy-related project reports or related documentation.

  •  Develop, implement, and monitor strategies for building optimization with regards to energy performance. Buildings may be part of the residential, commercial, or industrial sectors.

  •  Conduct energy audits or analysis to identify areas of inefficiency and make recommendations for improvement.

  •  Develop energy conservation measures and systems for buildings, equipment, and processes.



  • Prepare project plans, including workflows, detailed schedules, procedures, and any other tools necessary in the development and implementation of day-to-day project tasks.

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    Required education and experience



    • Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental science/studies, Architectural Engineer, or equivalent 

    • Authorized to work in the United States 

    •  3+ years of experience working with sustainability, energy management, energy efficiency, energy audits experience 

    •  Knowledge of energy efficiency concepts, clean energy, sustainability, carbon emissions, building energy use, public policy initiatives, energy industry market business trends, and energy programs. 

    •  Must have a strong understanding of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, among others.

    •  Experience estimating impacts from energy efficiency programs within the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

    •  Experience implementing energy and water conservation measuresfor building or facility optimization.

    •  Experience in analysis of energy savings or consumption for common energy efficiency measures for residential, commercial, or industrial sectors (such as lighting, HVAC, motors and drives, industrial processes, controls, weatherization, electrification, and/or custom measures). 

    • Field experience collecting primary data, such as energy usage data, equipment operation data, or equipment characteristics for the purposes of building energy audits or energy savings analysis.

    • Demonstrated passion for data and energy efficiency. 

    •  Excellent at visualizing data, synthesizing insights, and storytelling with data. 

    •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with significant expertise in Excel.

    •  Proven ability to work independently and within in a team environment, and to proactively identify problems and solutions. 

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.  

    • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.  

    • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. 


    Preferred skills



    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification 

    • LEED certification (BD+C or O&M) 

    • BPI (Home Energy Professional) Certification 

    •  Experience with building energy modeling, including experience with residential and commercial building simulation tools (e.g., eQuest, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, BEopt, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IESVE) 

    • A background in construction, commissioning, HVAC, mechanical, building controls, utility Demand Side Management (DSM), energy efficiency design, lighting, building envelope, or other building-related experience is preferred. 

    • Fluency in both Spanish and English
