Job Description:

As an Electrical Planning Engineer, you will support the development and delivery of company energy programs by providing engineering calculations, building energy simulations, measurement and verification procedures, technical design, and assistance. This role involves conducting in-depth research and analysis to support our expansion into energy industries, with a focus on technological and market trends, feasibility studies, and financial modeling. 


Essential functions

  • Collect, review, and analyze energy generation and consumption data.  

  • Assist in feasibility studies, benchmarking, and financial analyses for new projects and initiatives.  

  • Assist with the identification and evaluation of improvements for energy or cost reductions.   

  • Develop detailed reports and presentations on research findings and recommendations for senior management. 

  • Support the development of investment proposals and business cases for entering new markets.   

  •  Provide technical expertise and support internal stakeholders on power generation analysis and renewable energy projects.

  • Office environment / HORNE Puerto Rico Office


Physical demands



  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  •  Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.


Travel required


 10% to 25%


Required education and experience



  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

  • Authorized to work in the United States. 

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.  

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft applications.   

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.  

  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.  

  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Strong working knowledge of solar PV system design and other distributed energy resources and their interactions within power systems. 

  • Familiar with transmission and distribution engineering and system planning processes. 

  • Experience in analyzing electrical consumption and generation data. 

  • Proven ability to work independently and within in a team environment, and to proactively identify problems and solutions. 


Preferred skills



  •  Fluency in both Spanish and English 

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or power systems engineering is preferred. 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex information in an accessible manner. 

  • Geospatial tools, data and models (e.g. ArcGIS, Google Earth) 

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency concepts, clean energy, sustainability, carbon emissions, building energy use, public policy initiatives, energy industry market business trends, and energy programs.  

  • Demonstrated passion for data analysis, learning and collaboration.
