Primary Function of Position

Management of Opto-Mechanical Design and Development of the 3D Surgical Viewer and other Multi-Port (MP) Display Systems for the daVinci Robotic Assisted Surgical System

Essential Job Duties

• The primary responsibility of this position is to manage a team of opto-mechanical engineers working on the development of new display system architectures for the DaVinci Multi-Port system and the 3D Surgical Viewer.


• This role will require management of a team that will play a key role in the modeling and confirmation via prototype experiments all of the key display metrics that the 3D Viewer and other MP displays must deliver: brightness and contrast, image sharpness and resolution, white point and color gamut.


• Provide critical technical leadership when working with outside development partners for custom components, displays and sub-assemblies. Our development partners should know about and share in Intuitive's mission so they can feel the need for and understand the need for high quality and operational excellence.


• Strategic development of the supply chain must be a priority.

• Conversant in mechanical computer-aided design (CAD) packages such as SolidWorks


• A minimum 5-10 years as a proven technical innovator in product design, de-bug and qualification


• Strong analytical skills and the ability to meaningfully engage deeply technical individual contributors on specific activities


• Project management involving complex, inter-disciplinary development work leading cross-functional teams

• Minimum BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Applied Physics

• Understanding of modern flat-panel display technology and mounting and packaging methods and best practices


• Some experience in optical metrology and the tools used to characterize display systems, image sensors and light sources


• Familiarity with light sources, spatial light modulators, and complex optical systems

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1: $184,000 USD - $276,000 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $156,400 USD - $234,600 USD
Shift: Day
Travel: 25% of the time
Workplace Type: Set Schedule - This job will be onsite weekly, the percentage of onsite work will be defined by the leader.
