We are looking for an Automation & Electrical Controls Engineer for our Engineered Products division. The Engineered Products division focuses on the design and manufacture of superior rail products to serve customers in the leasing, OEM, railroad, and shipper market segments. As an Automation & Electrical Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical control systems for automated manufacturing equipment. This role will require expertise in PLC programming, robotic integration, and troubleshooting to ensure seamless operation of our production areas.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Develop, modify, and implement PLC programs to control machinery and processes, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Develop, coordinate, or monitor all aspects of design, including selection of components.
  • Research, design, evaluate, or incorporate electrical products, equipment, systems, or processes to meet requirements.
  • Identify and resolve electrical and control system issues through systematic troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Develop the necessary drawings and/or schematics utilizing ANSI, ASEE and other nationally recognized standards.
  • Prepare complete release packages that meet deliverables and commitments.
  • Develop and document Sequence of Operation (SOP), Cycle Time Analysis (CTA), and other documents to ensure the designs meet the requirements.
  • Manage automation projects from concept to implementation, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budget constraints.
  • Participate in and lead all internal and external Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT's).
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, or environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions with other production systems.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in automation and electrical controls engineering to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with automation, electrical controls design, and PLC program development.
  • Experience working in a complex manufacturing environment, showcasing strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across various functions.
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with engineering software programs such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar.
  • Demonstratable experience in making decisions, solving problems, developing designs, and working on complex and difficult projects.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with data analytics and visualization tools for process optimization.
