Overview

  • Arrange and describe archival and manuscript collections in a variety of formats; perform basic preservation tasks
  • Write descriptive content for collection materials (create finding aids and descriptive metadata, catalog rare books, etc.)
  • Publicize collections and encourage use through blog posts, assisting in social media content creation, and curating exhibits (on-campus and online)
  • Assist with digital collections projects, including scanning images, digitizing audio and video files, and developing or editing metadata
  • Support reference and research activities; conduct research relevant to collections
  • Physically shelve and shift materials
  • Other general support duties for HC&A


Responsibilities

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in (check one)

    • Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours), OR

    • Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours)

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at least half-time

  • Attention to detail combined with an ability to balance multiple responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively convey ideas, both verbally and in writing

  • Experience with Windows and/or Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office; interest in learning new technologies and applications

  • Ability to routinely lift and move boxes weighing up to 20 lbs. and occasionally lift and move heavier objects (with assistance as needed); push and maneuver loaded carts; bend and stoop; climb stairs and ladders (accommodations available)

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate training in library science, museum studies, history, or a related field
  • Interest in archives and/or special collections as a career

  • Previous work or volunteer experience in an archives, library, gallery, or museum

  • Knowledge of metadata standards such as EAD or Dublin CORE
