Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position supports the Boise State Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) in the translation of university research. This role will coordinate the IP and agreement activities of the OTT through the management of databases and docketing systems to ensure data and document integrity, compliance with sponsor requirements, and accurate reporting of OTT activities. This position is eligible to be hybrid/remote for the right candidate.
Department Overview:
The Office of Technology Transfer supports research activities, industry relations, and intellectual property commercialization for the university. The office is responsible for the assessment, protection, development, and marketing of new inventions for commercial use and facilitates the internal and external relationships that contribute to the process. The office also supports the advancement of innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development programs and initiatives on campus. We are seeking an Intellectual Property Coordinator to support the goals of the Office of Technology Transfers and Boise State University's Blueprint for Success.
Level Scope:
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry-level professionals and/or support employees.
Essential Functions:
95% of Time the Position must:

  • Database management: timely record and update patent and agreement information in Sophia and on OTT's internal docket; maintain patent/agreement documents on share drive;
  • Process internal and external inquiries relating to OTT matters from outside counsel, US Patent and Trademark Office, university researchers, and others;
  • Generate correspondence to university researchers and outside counsel regarding ongoing patent prosecution and other matters as necessary;
  • Oversight of iEdison database; timely reporting of patent prosecution information to government agencies as required by the Bayh-Dole Act;
  • Reconcile and record outside patent counsel invoices;
  • Act as the point of contact for Office of Sponsored Programs IP verification and ensure reporting compliance to sponsor (i.e., directly to US Governmental agency);
  • Generate reports on OTT activities such as inventions, patent filings and agreements, etc. as needed for office metrics, AUTM, and State Board of Education reporting;
  • Gather information and perform research utilizing databases and other online sources, including USPTO Patent Center, Google Patents, Google Scholar, Wellspring Scout;
  • Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, managing OTT memberships, booking travel, submitting expenses, etc.
5% of Time the Position must:
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of patent terminology and patent prosecution workflow.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Minimum
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree with 1+ year of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of patent terminology and docketing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with iEdison, Sophia and other Wellspring offerings.
Salary and Benefit
s:
