Job Description:

Job Title: Assistant Controller Department: Accounting Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Job Summary:

The Assistant Controller plays a vital role in ensuring accurate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes are completed, monitors and facilitates month, quarter, and year-end closing procedures, assist in generating month end financial statements and reports and is responsible for efficiently processing payroll for the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency.
  • Provide support for external audits and tax compliance activities.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards.
  • Mentor Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff members within the finance department.
  • Monitor sales and use tax.
  • Oversee the payroll process, including data input, calculation of wages, and processing of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • State registrations/licenses.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or relevant certification is a plus
  • Proven experience in accounting and payroll management roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and payroll regulations.
  • Proficiency in payroll/accounting software, preferably Paylocity and Vista.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software/tools.
  • Confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Walking short distances.
  • Bending, stooping or twisting.
  • Reaching above and/or below shoulders.
  • Clear speaking and adequate hearing, sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person and/or on the telephone.
  • Requires exertion of force of 25 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and/or 5 pounds continuously to lift/carry/move objects, files and documents.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment.
