Established Single Family Office is seeking a Controller to join its accounting team. The Controller will maintain accurate accounting records for the family's activity and holdings which includes Investment LLCs, trusts and Not for Profits. Investments are deployed with external managers across traditional public market strategies, such as equities and fixed income, as well as alternative strategies including private equity, private credit, hedge funds, and real assets.
Responsibilities:
Right hand to the CFO
Accountable for management of the families' personal finances including cash flow, real estate and private equity investments, aircraft, loans, trust distributions and tax payments.
Work with CFO and attorneys to execute estate and tax plans by booking the movement of assets and transfer of members interest within LLCs
Closely monitor cash flows and perform treasury functions as needed
Manage the day-to-day workflows/deliverables including reviewing staff entries for more complex transactions
Review the books for the family office management company, investment partnerships, and other family entities
Review year-end financials and tax workpapers for the tax return preparation
Prepare monthly net worth statements, annual budgets and other ad-hoc management reporting
Oversight of capital calls and distributions processes. May also include preparing wires as needed.
Work on ad hoc projects
Collaborate with the Accounting Team to define proper controls, policies and procedures
Mentor and develop staff and provide accounting guidance
Qualifications:
Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
10+ years of progressive accounting experience within a family office
Experience with partnership accounting and taxation (including trusts, estates and foundations)
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Strong accounting skills
Knowledgeable of accounting systems (Asset Vantage, QuickBooks, Quicken and Peachtree)
Ability to think proactively and work in a highly collaborative environment
Proven self-starter with excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills, business maturity and discretion, with significant experience working with senior management on highly confidential and high-profile matters
Willingness to address both complex high-level issues as well as routine day to day activities with equal enthusiasm
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and unquestionable integrity and ethics
