Bullpen, on behalf of our client, a Berkeley, California-based real estate investment firm with over $300M AUM of value-add strategy student housing and multifamily assets, is searching for a Director of Asset Management.
This role best suits an individual with significant, residential asset management experience who can own tasks from day one. The ideal professional will also be a resilient problem solver who is results-oriented.
Due to portfolio growth, our client is looking for this Director of Asset Management to join their team at the firm's headquarters in Berkeley, California.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive multifamily asset management strategies aligned with the company's overall objectives and financial goals.
Provide support to ensure effective execution of asset management initiatives including asset business plans.
Identify and communicate opportunities to enhance the value of existing assets through proactive management, optimization of operational efficiency, and strategic capital improvements.
Conduct thorough financial analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring, to evaluate asset performance and identify areas for improvement.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including acquisitions, finance, property management, and investor relations, to drive alignment and maximize synergies across internal teams.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including investors, lenders, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and facilitate successful asset management outcomes.
Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting asset management practices, and leverage this knowledge to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
Prepare and deliver regular reports and presentations for senior management and key stakeholders, providing insights into asset performance, financial metrics, and strategic initiatives.
Analyze real estate investment portfolio by creating complex financial models in Excel for underwriting asset improvement plans, projections, and refinancings.
Support the team with analytical and transactional aspects of potential investments including due diligence, market research, structuring, comparables, valuation, returns and sensitivities.
Perform asset management functions for existing properties in the portfolio, including evaluating capital strategies, updating valuation models, supporting financial reporting and overseeing timelines and budgets.
Coordinate with legal counsel and third parties in preparation of all due diligence and documentation in advance of closings.
Ad-hoc analyses on budgets, asset performance and capital expenditures.
Qualifications
The right candidate will bring quantitative technical skills ask well as qualitative soft skills, including:
Bachelor's degree in a finance or business-related field.
Minimum of 4-6+ years of relevant experience in real estate asset management (ideally student housing or residential).
Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Intellectual curiosity and the ability to be resourceful to find solutions.
