The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a US Indirect Tax Manager, you will have the opportunity to capitalize on your knowledge and skills and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Assisting in the strategic design, implementation and maintenance of US indirect tax processes and controls to meet demands of evolving enterprise and regulatory landscape


• Partnering with other functions, including customer, accounts receivable, procurement, accounts payable, controllership etc., to ensure that tax controls are understood and effectively implemented and maintained in their processes


• Enhancing and executing robust reconciliation processes in partnership with controllership team


• Identifying and pursuing opportunities to recover cash and reduce tax risk


• Advising and supporting Global Service Center Tax teams and external vendors tasked with executing indirect tax processes


• Providing US indirect tax advice to Global Corporate Tax Team members on M&A, supply chain flows, and other enterprise initiatives


• Actively engaging in project management, process improvements, process documentation, and strategic planning to enhance indirect tax efficiency and accuracy


• Mentoring and developing indirect tax team members

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution


• Twelve (12) years of sales and use tax experience in a private, public, government or military environment


• Seven (7) years of multi-state sales & use tax audit defense experience


• Five (5) years of US indirect tax leadership experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• CMI-Sales Tax


• Proficiency with ERP systems, for example, SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft etc.


• Proficiency with sales and use tax software, for example, OneSource, Vertex, Avalara etc.


• Experience with data analytics tools, for example, Alteryx, Power BI etc.


• Business License Management


• Property Tax Management


• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing


• Advanced level proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point

Travel: May include up to (10%)(domestic)

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $160,284 - $195,903, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
