Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Operator

@Orchard LLC is actively seeking to engage an experienced UAS Operator in support of NOAA's Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM). The work is located at the PMNM site in Honolulu, HI.

As the UAS Operator, you will:

• Operate an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Serves as a pilot in command for UAS operations for ONMS research and management activities in any and all PIR waters.
• Liaise with other NOAA offices also using UAS equipment, and coordinates response across line offices as necessary. Coordinates logistics for operating UAS for Sanctuaries and Monuments.
• Serve as a spotter and field observer, monitor for collision threats, and conduct regular safety and maintenance of UAS platforms in support of other UAS operations performed in Sanctuaries and Monuments.
• Assist in policy development for the use of UAS in the Sanctuaries and Monuments by management agencies and other users.
• Maintain and upkeep UAS equipment to ensure equipment meets recommended safety standards.
• Provide summary reports of all PMNM UAS operations.
• Research current Federal and State policies and rules for operating UAS.

Your background will include the following.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.
• Experience in being a visual observer and pilot in command for UAS operations in remote locations.
• Experience in developing recommendations and policies for operating UAS in National Marine Sanctuaries and Monuments.
• Experience working in a similar position in the operation of UAS.
• Must be able to operate PC computers proficiently with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.
• Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to function as part of a diverse team, often under tight timelines.
• Ability to work in remote locations aboard various research vessel platforms.
• Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted and over fifty (50) pounds assisted.
• Working knowledge of current Federal and State policies and rules for operating UAS.
