Overview

The Associate Director, Fundraising Initiatives develops, executes and manages fundraising strategies for fundraising initiatives, serving as the Advancement Office’s fundraising liaison with numerous campus partners. The Associate Director collaborates with campus partners and frontline fundraisers on giving opportunities supporting the University’s strategic priorities, ensuring that fundraisers and volunteers are well versed in articulating the University’s goals. The Associate Director develops or collaborates on written materials for fundraising activities, including proposals, project descriptions, campus partner briefings, correspondence, memos, and other materials as assigned.

Responsibilities

Fundraising Initiatives Management:

  • Collaborates with fundraisers and campus partners to create and execute fundraising strategies and plans within an assigned portfolio of initiatives.
  • Serves as the primary Advancement Office liaison for senior administrators and faculty within an assigned portfolio of initiatives, building strong working relationships and informing them of fundraising strategies and progress.
  • Responds to inquiries from donors and campus partners relating to assigned initiatives.
  • Works with fundraisers to identify prospects and develop strategies to advance solicitations; serves as a resource for detailed information about initiatives and translates complex University initiatives for a lay audience.
  • Works to seek approval of donor-proposed gift purposes.
  • Assesses request for campus partner participation in donor cultivation and solicitation through a strategic and ROI lens. Works with campus partners to prepare them for individual donor meetings, donor events, and staff training.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in OVP, tech support, and events, conceive of and execute content to advance fundraising goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates on gift documents for outright and deferred gifts with AVP, Senior Associate Director, General Counsel, Office of the Provost, and gift officers, ensuring that gifts are properly documented, benefit the University, and reflect approved purposes.
  • Focuses on continuous process improvement for gift documentation and collaboration with gift officers.
  • Collaborating with Fundraising Initiatives colleagues, draft proposals, case statements, and other strategic fundraising materials to advance solicitation for specific initiatives, maintaining materials’ accuracy and currency.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • The intellectual depth, maturity and confidence to work with and command the respect and confidence of senior University administrators, campus partners, volunteers, and colleagues in the Office of Advancement.
  • Self-motivation, creativity, persuasiveness, and the ability to motivate others, with high personal standards representative of Princeton University's commitment to excellence.
  • Strong writing skills; strong interpersonal skills when communicating with individuals and groups.
  • Tact, thoughtfulness and nuance.
  • Robust analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex financial records.
  • Sound judgment, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail; the ability to think strategically and act decisively; and strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments and changing priorities as circumstances may dictate.
  • Ability to articulate Princeton's mission, traditions, excellence, priorities and goals with enthusiasm, energy, and creativity and to compel others to action.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles of fundraising.
  • Familiarity with STEM fields; ability to translate complicated research.
  • Experience in higher education or other complex institution, alumni relations and/or volunteer management.
