Job Description:

ESY Art Teacher, Special Education The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy. The ESY Art Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing art instruction for students in grades K-10 for the upcoming extended summer school year (July 1, 2024 – August 1, 2024). Daily classes are provided to students within their grade-level cohort, and provide opportunities for art exploration and creation. The ESY Art Teacher collaborates with the Special Education Teacher to develop projects that are in alignment with the classroom curriculum and accessible to students based on their IEP accommodations. The ESY Art Teacher creates a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment for the six to ten students in their classroom. Essential Duties:
  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lessons for students in grades K-10. Collaborate with special education teacher to ensure compliance with students' IEP goals, objectives, and accommodations.
  • Develop and implement classroom behavior management appropriate to the age and social/emotional levels of students.
  • Foster positive self-esteem and social growth of students through art exploration activities.
  • Create and maintain a respectful classroom culture that fosters safe and productive learning.
  • Plan and implement the daily art elective block.
Qualifications Education:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education, with certification in Art Education.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Art Education
  • Experience working with children with social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges preferred
