Why We Need You:


PEMCO has a rare, dynamic, and challenging opportunity for a Director, Enterprise Risk Management & Internal Audit to join our community. In this role, you will be responsible for directing and developing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program, including but not limited to strategic thinking related to risk identification, assessment, monitoring, management, and mitigation as well as recommending actions and mitigation plans on identified risks in coordination with senior management. Additional responsibilities include management and oversight of Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance. This position functions as chief audit executive, as defined by the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and reports to the Chief Legal Officer for administrative interface and support, and to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors for internal audit direction and accountability.


What You’ll Be Doing:



  • Direct the Internal Audit (IA) Program, including the development of risk-based annual internal audit plan and budget for evaluating the effectiveness of controls in place to manage significant financial reporting and other risk exposures, safeguard company assets, and compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Collaborates with senior leadership on critical and complex aspects of internal controls and makes operational recommendations.

  • Directs and maintains the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program, including but not limited to ERM strategy, risk identification, assessment, monitoring, management, and mitigation as well as recommending actions and mitigation plans on identified risks in coordination with senior management; compile and analyze data on risk and organizational trends.

  • Direct the function and personnel responsible for the Corporate Compliance Program including oversight of privacy, corporate policies, and regulatory compliance matters.

  • Establish and maintain continuing education program for management and staff.

  • Execute on strategy with precision through establishing effective teams and leading others in analyzing and solving complex problems.

  • Works with Audit Committee Chair on Audit Committee meeting agenda and develops and delivers supporting quarterly package.

  • Supports company’s issues management system and advises management in their remediation activities, including the implementation of changes recommended by external auditors.

  • Facilitates ERM Committee meetings and provide additional support and strategic input to the ERM Committee as assigned.

  • Manage a team of direct (and indirect) reports, with performance management and development responsibilities.

  • Manages department budget and resources responsibly.

  • Provides innovative and strategic leadership to multiple departments and gain cross-functional support for major projects, improvements, or changes.

  • Selects co-sourced and outsourced auditors and ensure firm performance and audit workflow meets quality expectations and corporate budgeting and reporting timelines.

  • Oversees the regular evaluation of operational departments of the organization to determine if they are performing in compliance with recommended processes, procedures, and business controls; suggest new initiatives, controls, and procedures to ensure good business practices are in place.

What You'll Bring:



  • B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience (in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent qualified discipline)

  • 8 years of related work experience at the corporate or organization level; 8 years managing an internal audit department and employee management is required

  • Insurance and financial services experience is strongly preferred

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is strongly preferred

  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is strongly preferred

  • Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) is strongly preferred


  • Job specific: Advanced skills reflecting knowledge of financial and compliance standards related to property & casualty insurance (such as Regulatory Compliance, Statutory Accounting Principles, Own Risk and Solvency Assessment reporting, and Model Audit Rule)

  • MS Office: Skilled proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook is required

Compensation:


Compensation decisions are determined based on an individual’s qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.


Target Pay Range: $216,941-$265,151


Full Pay Range: $180,784-$301,307


Benefits:


Regular part-time PEMCO employees working at least 24 hours per week and regular full-time PEMCO employees are eligible to elect coverage under medical, dental, and vision plans for themselves and their eligible family members with generous employer premium cost shares. In addition, as a benefits-eligible employee, you are:



  • covered by employer-paid basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance policies as well as long- and short-term disability benefit coverages.

  • eligible to participate in PEMCO’s 401(k) plan which includes a generous employer match (2 for 1 on the first 6% employee pre-tax and/or Roth deferral, up to federal maximums). 


PEMCO provides the following paid leave programs for benefits-eligible employees in their first year of PEMCO employment:



  • Vacation accrues at a rate of 10 days for new hires, and increases based on a schedule to a maximum annual accrual of 25 days based on tenure.

  • Granted four (4) personal days immediately upon hire.

  • Paid holidays for the eight (8) holidays observed by PEMCO throughout the calendar year.

  • Granted up to ten (10) days of sick leave immediately upon hire (pro-rated based on hire date and full-time/part-time status), which is approximately 28 hours more per year than the Washington state-required accrual.

  • In addition, PEMCO provides paid time off for bereavement, jury duty, and employee volunteering in the community.
