Post-baccalaureate Fellowship at New England Biolabs, Inc. in Ipswich, Massachusetts

Job Description:

The selected Postbaccalaureate Fellow will primarily focus on evaluating emerging machine learning (ML) methods for protein engineering and developing user-friendly computational tools to facilitate the application of ML techniques in protein engineering research under the guidance of senior Computational Biologist Sean Johnson.

Key responsibilities include:

• Researching and evaluating state-of-the-art ML methods and algorithms relevant to protein engineering.




• Designing and implementing computational tools and pipelines to streamline the usage of ML methods for protein engineering tasks.




• Collaborating with experimental biologists and bioinformaticians to integrate computational tools into existing workflows.




• Conducting benchmarking studies and performance evaluations to assess the effectiveness and robustness of ML-based approaches.




• Documenting code, methodologies, and results for internal use and potential publication.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.




• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB.




• Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).




• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.




• Prior experience in bioinformatics or protein engineering research is desirable but not required.
