The selected Postbaccalaureate Fellow will primarily focus on evaluating emerging machine learning (ML) methods for protein engineering and developing user-friendly computational tools to facilitate the application of ML techniques in protein engineering research under the guidance of senior Computational Biologist Sean Johnson.
Key responsibilities include:
Researching and evaluating state-of-the-art ML methods and algorithms relevant to protein engineering.
Designing and implementing computational tools and pipelines to streamline the usage of ML methods for protein engineering tasks.
Collaborating with experimental biologists and bioinformaticians to integrate computational tools into existing workflows.
Conducting benchmarking studies and performance evaluations to assess the effectiveness and robustness of ML-based approaches.
Documenting code, methodologies, and results for internal use and potential publication.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB.
Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
Prior experience in bioinformatics or protein engineering research is desirable but not required.
