Job Summary
The Sr Production Engineer plays a key role in the ongoing production and optimization of Murphy's Onshore assets. The Sr Production Engineer is primarily responsible for all functions related to maintaining well/field production in line with forecasts, optimizing well performance to maximize value, closely monitoring drawdown conditions for new wells, and interfacing with field operations staff, Reservoir/Exploitation engineering, Completion's engineering, Marketing, and Regulatory to ensure safe and efficient operations to maximize asset revenue. This position is based in Houston, Texas.
The Sr Production Engineer will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
Ensures environmentally responsible and safe operating practices are carried out in accordance with government and company policies. Participate in quarterly safety reviews.
Provide well surveillance on a day-to-day basis using real time data streams (xspoc, cygnet, carte), field reporting, decline curves, cumulative production, ratios, etc., and various dashboards to maximize production.
Review historical data and make recommendations which result in production uplifts and/or opex/capex cost reductions.
Work with field team and operations engineering for routine well and facility optimization and/or opex/capex reduction opportunities.
Support day to day workover rig activities, complete RCFA on artificial lift systems and work to reduce failure rates.
Prepare well intervention economics and AFE recommendations for well work such as artificial lift installations or repair, production logging, electric and slick line operations, stimulations and coiled tubing operations.
Generate continuous improvement ideas and provide economic justifications for implementation.
Support optimization projects through well nodal analysis modeling and hydraulic modeling software to generate scenarios to support projects.
Support Field Operations team to accurately report downtime for corporate reporting requirements.
Provide support for new field development planning and reviews. This includes preparation of a design basis for artificial lift method, optimization of frac designs, well designs, flow lines, power requirements, infrastructure design and development of operating and flow assurance procedures
Develop/Manage new well flowback strategy and guidelines
Estimate impact of offset well frac communication and implement mitigation strategies.
Responsible for production decline analysis of base producing wells and generate monthly production outlooks (forecasts) using ValNav for budgeting and comparing against actual field performance
Review Enersight team input and downtime assumptions for final forecast outputs
Presentation of Monthly Production Forecasts/Budget variances to Management
Support Performance & Planning group to complete LRP, Budget processes and provide inputs for Investor Relations and business development presentations
Work with FDC team to ensure production allocation is correct in Prodview and working with Production Accounting to ensure accurate regulatory production reporting
Optimize the way we do business through constant innovation and working with IT to build apps/dashboards to harness our data and utilize it to help generate field optimization and cost reduction opportunities
This role requires frequent and ongoing interaction with field operations, well intervention engineering, reservoir engineering, corrosion engineering, management, regulators, partners, other operators and vendors. Communicate daily between field operations, Houston and 3rd party plant operators as required
Licenses/ Certifications
Professional Engineering License is considered an asset
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering
Minimum 5 years' experience in the Oil & Gas industry, focused on production/operations, Montney specific experience is considered an asset
Experience with production forecasting (decline analysis) and budgeting, project evaluation (economics), and data analysis
Experience / familiar using key software packages such as ValNav, Accumap, Piper/GAP, Spotfire, Prodview, Enersight, Canary, Petroleum Experts, Harmony and Cygnet
Excellent communication, teamwork, and ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced work environment while managing priorities and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
Comfortable with giving presentations and proficient with MS Office suite
Strategic and results orientated, decisive, self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
Field experience with wireline/well intervention operations is an asset
Work is conducted in an office setting working 9-hour days Mondays thru Thursdays and 4-hour days on Fridays with frequent phone calls and periodic meetings
Travel to well sites, field offices and to vendor sites is occasionally required
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering and minimum 5 years' experience in the oil and gas industry, focused on production/ operations, Montney specific experience is considered an asset
Knowledge of common artificial lift types and optimum application/operation
