Salary: The anticipated salary for this role is $118,800- 193,632 depending on experience. 

 

Position Information: 

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) & Campus Architect, the Director of Project Management is responsible for the delivery of facilities projects through management of project managers and other professionals in support of the construction delivery process. Responsible for overall unit fiscal and resource management, including recharge rate development and roll out. Provides leadership on matters related to planning, design and construction, and on the design/build delivery of projects. In support of the AVC & Campus Architect, is involved in the strategic and long-range planning for the development of future campus projects. Prepares and presents documentation for appropriate approvals to Campus committees, community programs, the Chancellor and Executive staff, Office of the President Staff, the Board of Regents and the Legislature, as requested. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

25% - Provides strategies, tactical management and coordination of all capital improvement projects, including ensuring implementation of planned and comprehensive building, landscape and infrastructure programs. 

20% - Provides expertise in selection of design professionals, fee and contract negotiations, project code compliance and regulations, engineering and technical support, organizational policies and project development. 

15% - Focuses on integrity of approved project program through the successive phases of project development and implementation, development of early project estimates and budgets, integrity of project design and functional performance expectations. 

15% - Manages professional staff of architects, engineers, landscape architects, project managers, analysts, and other design/construction professionals; identifies staffing needs, selects, hires, trains, evaluates and as required takes corrective action with direct reports. 

10% - Directly oversees budgets and scheduling issues for assigned projects, ensuring on-budget and on-time performance. 

5% - Establishes/maintains good working relationship with diverse populations including internal departmental units, service providers such as EH&S and Police, and external regulatory agencies such as State Fire Marshall, State Architect, etc., to ensure sufficient support for tactical project implementation. 

5% - Advises senior management in responding to requests for information regarding the Capital Improvement Program, ensuring consistency and continuity in offering historical perspective in describing projects. 

 

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience/training in architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning or landscape architecture. 
  • 8 - 13 years of related experience 
  • Experience leading activities, to include facilities planning; and capital facility programming, design and delivery. 
  • Direct experience in executing and completing major planning and capital projects within budget and on schedule. 
  • Thorough knowledge of the organization, including its vision, mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure and short- and long-range strategic capital projects plans. 
  • Strong facilities operation knowledge, engineering and architectural systems, codes, standards and regulations preferably in a university or research laboratory environment. 
  • Strong professional planning and land use development knowledge, preferably in a university of research laboratory environment. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree. 
  • Experience within the University of California System. 
  • Project Management experience with minor and major capital projects within an institute of higher education or similar environments including, but not limited to, research laboratories, instructional space, residential facilities and infrastructure projects. 
  • Previous supervisory/managerial experience. 
  • License to practice in at least one of the following professions: architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning or landscape architecture. 
  • Certificate to practice in at least one of the following professions: architecture, engineering, urban design, city planning or landscape architecture. 
  • California Architectural License 
  • California Licensed Engineer 
  • LEED Accreditation
