Position Purpose:

Plans and manages engineering resources, technical documentation and testing qualifications, database maintenance, engineering change control and issuance of engineering documents.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Develops objectives for assigned area and ensures alignment with overall company strategies and objectives.

  • Participates in key engineering design reviews. Enforces conformance with defined requirements and ensures that corrective actions are completed as required.

  • Assess and Evaluate Mechanical & Electrical systems for efficiency.

    • Pumps, blowers, UV, both optimization and troubleshooting.

    • System optimization for applicable unit process areas.



  • Energy Efficiency

    • Ability to establish testing protocol for pre- and post-measurement & verification.

    • Ability to understand and evaluate utility incentives.



  • Incorporate digital engineering into facility operations where appropriate.

    • Work with process engineering and digital team to further develop digital solutions.

    • Work with Operation Technology Group to assist with add-ons during Hubgrade to Scale initiative.



  • Internet of Things
    • Evaluate power monitoring and advances in technology.


  • Participates with Sales and Marketing to establish innovative activities in area of responsibility. Supports Sales and Marketing with technical strategy and experience to maintain current accounts and to capture new business.

  • Defines technology, equipment, instrumentation, and systems needs in assigned area and ensures that staff has adequate resources to effectively meet department and individual objectives. Assists in the Capital Expense Request process by specifying equipment requirements during the acquisition of new or upgraded capital equipment, systems, and software.

Work Environment:


  • Typically spends 75% of time in operations environment and 25% of time in an office environment.

  • Travels as needed.

  • Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.


  • Possible Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible operations hazards including dust, fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water, and electrical hazards.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training.

  • Over ten years progressive experience in design, project, construction, or management of wastewater treatment plants and ability to troubleshoot and solve water / wastewater treatment process/ operations problems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of the standard practices, common tools, materials, occupational hazards and safety precautions of water / wastewater treatment plant and thorough working knowledge of NPDES regulations and permitting process.

  • Supervisory experience (personnel and project supervision) with demonstrated ability to diagnose complex process problems and manage remedial action.

  • Demonstrates ability to develop unique solutions for complex technical problems that may include the design of new systems or development of solutions having few or no precedents.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to effectively manage resources (personnel, equipment, materials, facilities, funds, and reputation).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget preparation and cost control and have the ability to forecast budget, staffing and equipment needs. Thorough understanding of internal and external economic factors (cost, margins, profit impact of decisions) affecting assignment areas.

  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications and reports.

  • Strong PC skills with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database software and the ability to optimize the use of technology and systems to communicate, manage budget and to streamline processes and increase efficiency.

  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:


  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training.

  • Valid Driver's license and safe driving record.

Physical Requirements:


  • Amount of time spent - Standing 25%, Sitting 25%, Walking 50%.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and enter confined spaces.

  • May be required to use the stairs, ladders, catwalks and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground.
