Overview

The Research Assistant, under supervision of the Principal Investigator, will carry out project to uncover mechanisms of cellular and physiological responses to metabolic stress.

Responsibilities

• Carries out molecular cell biology projects to understand how nutrient excess impacts mRNA translation and cell function

b. Maintains appropriate records of study design and results.

c. Evaluates research results, discussing project outcomes with laboratory personnel.

d. Works collaboratively with post-doctoral fellows and other research assistants.

e. Depending on interest and study results, there may be opportunities to extend findings to mouse models or human samples.

• Organizes daily orders for laboratory.


• Manages laboratory chemical, consumable, and equipment inventories.


• Serves as laboratory safety officer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree


• Longitudinal (e.g., 2- year) project-based experience working in a basic science research lab


• Competency with mammalian cell culture, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, PCR and cloning


• Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Suite and facility with learning new software systems for management of molecular biology data.


• Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments and equipment.


• Ability to follow experimental protocols provided and to trouble shoot experiments.


• Strong organizational and communication skills (communicate clearly and effectively via verbal and written instruction).


• Ability to prioritize responsibilities - through completion. • Attention to detail, critical thinking, timeliness


• Ability to work independently and with others in the lab - to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts.


• Highly motivated, ability to take initiative, and willingness to contribute to team efforts
