Job Description:

Ardurra seeks a CAD Technician to join our Transportation Structures design practice in Orlando, FL or Doral, FL.


Primary Duties



  • Use MicroStation SS10, OpenRoads, and/or OpenBridge platforms to draft, edit and finalize design plans and details using appropriate symbology and drafting standards; Use Geopak, and/or OpenRoads to perform design tasks such as topography/surface analysis, and create alignments, profiles, and sections.

  • Research, understand, and apply published CAD and Design standards applicable to work assignments

  • Research, test, develop and recommend techniques and preferred workflow processes to leverage OpenBridge in the production of structural plan sets.

  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine best approach to complete drawing set

  • Must be able to independently develop, organize, assemble, and index bridge and component plan set details using generalized input from engineers.

  • Collect and/or assist engineer with collecting field data and applying it to design drawings and exhibits

  • Coordinate the transfer and integration of data supporting project drafting and design to include survey, geotechnical, engineering detail, and as-built data.

  • Prepare preliminary and final drawings, plan & profiles, and exhibits from engineering sketches, verbal instructions, specifications and supporting documentation according to project criteria and applicable standards.

  • Prepare quantity summaries, EQ reports, CAD compliance checks, and other electronic delivery task necessary for a conformed electronic submittal package.

  • Develop graphic presentations, exhibits, drawings, and visualizations for use in project pursuits and marketing presentations.

  • Prepare and review complete project drawing documents for accuracy, conformity, and quality assurance of format, drafting, and CAD compliance; Review work done by others for drafting, composition, and compliance errors

  • Develop standards of practice, techniques and improved processes and procedures for drafting and design production, especially related to communication with and utilization of roadway/highway/signalization/signing/etc. CADD

  • Assist staff and management as a technical specialist and advisor

  • Coordinates work with engineers, interns, technicians, and administrative staff

  • Receives general direction on key objectives

  • Receives supplemental guidance as necessary on unconventional or complex projects.

  • Is proactive in communicating with engineers on status/progress of assignments and needs for additional information in order to provide complete and accurate plan sets.

  • Must be able to collaborate with other employees, clients, and sub consultants

  • Must be able communicate with other employees in remote settings using various electronic forms and media such as PDF, Bluebeam, Adobe, Teams, and Zoom.


Education and Experience Requirements



  • Has extensive experience using the latest release of MicroStation and other Bentley support products such as Geopak and/or OpenRoads

  • Possesses a basic understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Bluebeam PDF, and Windows File Explorer

  • Can mentor and train engineering interns, drafting, and other design staff

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of the FDOT CAD Manual including sheet naming and organization, scales, coordinate systems, line styles and level requirements, etc.

  • Has the ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, Managers, or others on the project team, as well as understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and interact effectively to maintain a team environment

  • 15+ years of related experience in Civil Engineering Structures/Transportation environment

  • High School Diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training as outlined above. Associates Degree is desirable.

  • Engagement in life-long learning to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of the latest tools and software platforms; client requirements and standards; and CAD compliancy issues.
