The University of Illinois Counseling Center is hiring clinical counselors. Successful candidates will have solid experience and expertise in serving college student populations. The Center is an accredited training site through the American Psychological Association with over 50 full-time staff, which includes clinicians, doctoral interns, social work interns, academic professional staff, and administrative staff. The staff is also made up of graduate assistants, undergraduate paraprofessionals, and practicum counselors.

Job Summary

Serve as a generalist for clinical service provision (including the provision of triage and crisis management), provide outreach and clinical services, and provide training and supervision to doctoral interns, unlicensed staff, and other trainees.



Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide time-limited mental health counseling services for individuals and couples
• Provide outreach and clinical services that address the needs of the student population including traditionally underserved populations
• Train/supervise doctoral interns, practicum counselors and undergraduate paraprofessional service providers; provide supervision of APA accredited health psychology interns; clinical supervision of unlicensed
• Manage clinical crises and triage services
• Provide training and leadership in psychological assessment; participating in other outreach, training, and consultation team activities
• Provide group counseling services through a general therapy group or a group that addresses a specific clinical issue or the needs of a particular population of students
• Participate in psychological emergency and trauma response
• Participate in various Student Affairs activities and committees
• Contribute to research and assessment area

Minimum Qualifications



For clinicians having a terminal master's level degree the following is required: master's degree in social work, counseling or psychology. For clinicians having a terminal doctoral degree the following is required: doctorate in clinical psychology, clinical/community psychology, counseling psychology, or related field. Degree completed by start date. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) In Illinois or license state-transfer eligible background is required for master's degree. Licensed in Illinois or license state-transfer as psychologist required for candidates with doctoral degree. Demonstrated experience functioning at a high level as a generalist in a diverse setting. In-depth supervised training in psychological assessment, training & supervision



Preferred Qualifications



Demonstrated interest, expertise, and experience in clinical or outreach work in an area of special emphasis and/or training/supervision.
Previous experience in a college counseling center.
Fluency in a second language, especially Mandarin or Spanish. Other language fluency outside of English is considered.



Appointment Information



This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/5/2024 and no later than August 2024. Starting salary is $78,000 and will be commensurate with experience and education.
