Your impact:

HGTV Magazine is looking for a highly skilled Executive Editor to oversee daily operations at the magazine. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with home and lifestyle content, a deep understanding of interior design, and a passion for HGTV. The executive editor will help manage the editorial staff, assign and top edit all content, work with the art department to conceptualize covers, work with HGTV talent and executives on features and packages, and represent the magazine on sales calls, at conferences, and at industry events.

What you’ll do:


  • Run editorial brainstorms

  • Develop issue lineups with the editorial director

  • Create and maintain editorial calendars for the sales/marketing team

  • Manage editorial staff and coordinate meetings with editorial director

  • Attend client meetings and events with marketing and sales teams

  • Represent the brand at press appointments, on sales calls and in media

  • Assign and top-edit content

  • Produce an editor’s letter for each issue

  • Work closely with HGTV talent on special projects, such as guest-edited issues

  • Oversee a weekly newsletter and the magazine’s social accounts

  • Work with HGTV network partners on potential stories and initiatives

  • Mentor and develop junior staff

  • Develop and produce native advertising content in partnership with the sales and marketing teams

Who you are: 


  • 10+ years editorial experience at a major consumer brand, ideally a national magazine

  • A proven leader with substantial management experience 

  • An idea machine who consistently finds fresh new ways to present home and lifestyle content

  • An interior design enthusiast with deep ties in the industry 

  • A detail-oriented editor who can hone stories and produce flawless copy

  • A collaborative team member who works well with every department (photo, design, edit, sales, marketing, HR, etc)

  • A journalist at heart who is excited to unearth new stories and get the facts right

  • A budget-minded leader who can find smart, efficient ways to produce top-notch content 

The base salary for this role is between $129,000 and $153,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
