The Network Technician will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the campus network. The duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Copper and fiber-optic cabling & termination
  • Installation of physical network devices such as access points, switches, and routers
  • Network administration (configuration & management of switches, routers, firewalls and access points)
  • Troubleshooting of network-related issues
  • Maintain accurate documentation including cabling maps and configuration/troubleshooting notes
  • Review, input and update work orders in the centralized work order system

The Network Technician is expected to be fully involved in networking initiatives, research, and reports. They are expected to function as a team member of the operations team and the Technology Services department while realizing that many assignments will require a high degree of independent thought and work.

The successful candidate will display strong interpersonal, written communication and customer service skills, be able to work with others and demonstrate the ability to work on multiple projects while remaining both focused and organized.

The typical workday will be approximately eight hours between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The exact schedule will be arranged with the supervisor and based upon college needs. Flexible scheduling opportunities may be available for the successful candidate. The position will be based at the Alfred campus; however, some work assignments may require travel between the Alfred and Wellsville campuses, a distance of about 15 miles. Occasional after-hours and weekend work will be required.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a computer related field OR Associates Degree with demonstrated networking experience OR equivalent work experience.
  • The ability to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
  • The ability to lift 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience as a network technician in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with running and terminating network cables in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience managing and configuring Fortinet products.
  • Experience managing and configuring HPE Aruba networking equipment including ClearPass.
