Development Scientist I/II-DNA Modifying Enzymes at New England Biolabs, Inc. in Ipswich, Massachusetts

Job Description:

New England Biolabs (NEB) is inviting applications for the position of Development Scientist I/II. The successful candidate will work on goal-oriented projects within a dynamic group of scientists creating reagents for DNA modification, assembly, and cloning. This position offers opportunities to develop novel reagents and workflow solutions, engage with customers, attend scientific conferences and learn from technically and commercially-focused colleagues across the company.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Develop and characterize enzymes, assays, reagents, and kits.


  • Develop and optimize activity assays and reaction/storage buffers.


  • Perform stability testing on final formulations.


  • Demonstrate utility in cutting-edge workflows, processes, and applications.


  • Establish meaningful performance criteria and relevant QC standards.


  • Participate in web, phone, and live activities for technical support and product training.


  • Prepare technical content and literature in collaboration with colleagues from Research, Production, and Marketing.


  • Present findings to internal and external customers/collaborators.


Required Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years’ experience preferred.


  • Strong molecular biology bench skills and prior publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals.


  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects in a dynamic environment and bring projects to completion.


  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and an ability to present scientific information to an audience with a wide spectrum of expertise.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills, scientific enthusiasm, and integrity.


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with a proven track record as a creative and resourceful problem solver.


  • Customer support experience and mindset preferred.
