Summary of Position:

The Lead Product Scientist will work on the Insights to Commercialization Flushable Wipes team to commercialize product innovation and support life cycle maximization of commercialized products.  The incumbent will provide leadership within a team environment to execute innovation from initial hypothesis generation through pilot scale demonstration and onto commercial assets. The incumbent will collaborate broadly inside the corporation with R&E, pilot plant, mill operations and with cross functional disciplines.  The incumbent will report to the R&E Senior Manager within Family Care Research and Engineering.

Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with project leads, process/product engineers, and cross-functional partners to drive commercialization of product innovation.   


  • Understand consumer insights to support building product innovation plans. 


  • Support product life-cycle maximization as needed, including quality system initiatives. 


  • Work independently and progress with limited instruction and as part of a larger cross functional team. 


  • Maintain technical and scientific expertise in the flushable wipes category and communicate impact of developments on Kimberly-Clark.  


  • Coach and mentor less-experienced team members to increase technical understanding and ability to execute programs. 


  • Supporting building project and team budgets and schedules.   


  • Drive the protection and documentation of innovation to protect and defend Kimberly-Clark proprietary technology and products through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets. 


  • Ensure all work complies with corporate safety, regulatory, product safety, and sustainability requirements. 


Influence:

  • The incumbent will interact daily across the R&E community consisting of product, process, and material experts. This team is accountable for the development of improved or new materials that deliver on consumer needs and improved performance in personal care absorbent products. The incumbent will provide leadership and decision making from the material perspective to advance projects through the business stage and gate approval process. Weekly the incumbent will influence vendors and partner with corporate research, procurement, supply chain, safety, regulatory, and legal as required by project needs.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in related scientific or engineering discipline.


  • 2 plus years of industry experience in research or engineering, product/material development, project management roles or other related experience. 


  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes. 


  • Exceptional skills effectively communicating/translating technical concepts and plans to others. 


  • Travel up to 15% if needed, potentially including some international travel. 


Preferred:


  • Experience in R&E in wipes or flushable wipes. 


  • Experience leading product commercialization activities. 


  • Familiarity with cosmetics development and manufacturing.
