Basic Job Functions:



The role of the Safety Coordinator includes, but is not limited to, working closely with NSMEM Teammates, Contractors and Leadership to drive continuous improvement in safety culture, performance and safety systems. The Safety Coordinator will interpret and practically apply regulatory and consensus standards (OSHA, NFPA, NRC, etc.), develop and update policies and procedures, conduct and document incident investigations, safety inspections/audits, develop action plans and follow up, and conduct safety training and participate in emergency response teams. This position requires working scheduled and unscheduled overtime, some overnight travel, and the ability to be on call 24/7 to respond to safety needs. The person for this role must be able to communicate effectively to support safety and open communication with teammates and contractors.


Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.




Minimum Qualifications:

• 3 years of experience as a safety professional in an industrial setting


• BS Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent

• 3 years of experience as a safety professional in the steel industry.


• Hold or be willing to obtain First Responder / EMT certification


• Experience with Industrial Hygiene, Behavior-Based Safety and Worker's Compensation


• Experience and/or certifications in Safety (30-hour, fall protection, LOTOTO, etc.)


• experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program


• Bilingual in Spanish including the ability to read, write and speak fluently
