The University of Pitt. is looking for a Post Doctoral Associate in the lab of Dr E Rossi

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the management and analysis of eye movement data collected from on ongoing collaboration with the UPMC concussion lab. Duties include exporting data from Retitrack device located in the concussion lab, evaluating and monitoring the quality of the incoming data and providing feedback to the concussion team, and processing data for eye trace extraction from SLO videos using C. Light software and Rossi Lab software (REMMIDE). The postdoc will use tools such as MATLAB to quantify the quality of eye motion traces using the C. Light software’s and REMMIDE’s outputs and to create and assess accurately labeled traces (saccade segmentation, etc.) using custom software. The postdoc will also analyze the eye movements data using various analytical approaches and will develop new methods for analysis of concussion and control data. The postdoc will present results at regular study meetings and at technical meetings with the Kontos Lab and C. Light team, and weekly lab meetings. They will also co-mentor undergraduate students working on data labeling and meet with them regularly to monitor their progress. The postdoc will be responsible for developing an analytical framework, in collaboration with the PI and co-Is, for the comparison of data between concussion patients and controls and for evaluation of FEMs changes over time in concussion patients followed longitudinally. They will analyze all of the data according to the analysis plan developed and work closely with the statistician to carry out the statistical analysis of the data. They will write the manuscripts describing the results of the study and present the results at an international meeting. They will also analyze data collected in our previous pilot study and write a report on the findings. They will also collaborate with the software engineer to develop a new AI based method for automatic motion trace labeling and FEMs extraction (using labelled data from the pilot and current study). We also anticipate that the postdoc will contribute to our ongoing work evaluating fixational eye movements in patients with retinal diseases and those undergoing therapies for vision restoration and any other tasks that I as the PI assign to them.

Expectations or Qualifications (Ex: PhD in xxx, Ability to write and publish articles, etc.)

o PhD in vision science or related field

o Extensive experience working with eye movement data

o Experience with designing and carrying out human visual pscyhophysics experiments

o Experience and familiarity with ocular neurology and the neurophysiology of the oculomotor system

o Training in visual neuroscience and the neural control of eye movements

o Experience working with patients with brain injury and concussion is desirable but not necessary

o Should the candidate have an abstract accepted at a national or international meeting they will be provided with travel funds to support their presentation of their work.
